The 2017 Lincoln MKX test prototype caught the attention of our spy photographers some few weeks ago when it was undergoing testing somewhere in Europe. Although much details remain a mystery judging from the heavy camouflage on its skin, it is quite evident that the new model has gained some few enhancements inside and out. Based on teaser photos and spy pics, we’ve prepared the following rendering that we hope best describes what buyers should be in the lookout for. Release date rumors are also covered. Enjoy the read!
Just like its immediate predecessor that debuted during the 2015 North American International Show, the new model gains some substantial refreshments that the automaker hopes will auger well with the midsize luxury crossover SUV segment. This it hopes to achieve through changes aimed at making: the cabin whisper quiet at speed, the performance exhilarating yet smooth and efficient, and the value proposition greater than anything else seen in its class.
Just like the redesigned 2017 MKZ that brought significant exterior design changes, the new model also gains some substantial changes that shows a new face of progress. To cut the long story short, the new Lincoln MKX will blend style and substance to deliver an all-rounded approach in its class. But even in spite of lack of details, at least as of now, it is no longer a rumor that the new model will gain significant exterior facelifts. Output ratings are unlikely to change however.
The Lincoln MKX nameplate had quite a rough start when it started out in 2007, in fact, we highly recommended buyers to consider pretty much anything else first. Although it was competent overall, the MKX lacked crucial details that its rivals excelled in such as driving character and the quality of the cabin. And even with significant facelifts in the following years, the lackluster first impression still remained relevant. Things however took a different turn with the 2016 MKX which benefited from thorough redesigns that brought in numerous enhancements and performance updates, achieved via an all new platform.
Riding on the same success as its previous iteration, the new model is expected to continue with the same success streak by offering even more upscale convenience, infotainment, and driver-assisting technologies. As such, buyers should expect a new grille and headlights, an updated Sync 3 infotainment system, revised audio and climate controls, and enhanced material quality.
Rivals that will probably give the 2017 Lincoln MKX a run for its money once released include the BMW X5, Acura MDX, Mercedes GLE, and the Lexus RX 350.
2017 Lincoln MKX Release Date & Price
It is too early to talk about the pricing details for the new model. However, judging from other recently revised Lincoln models, it is quite probable that the new model will come with an unchanged pricing structure. If so, then expect the MKX Premier to go for sale for an MSRP starting from $38,000, the MKX Select from $41,000, the MKX Reserve from $45,000, and the MKX Black Label from $53,000. A disclaimer though – the prices are just speculative!
Its release date, according to multiple sources should be expected to take place sometime in the second half of 2017. A possibility still exists it’ll be named 2018 Lincoln MKX.

2017 Lincoln MKX Exterior
We can tell from the images that the exterior design of the new MKX is dramatic, with modern well-balanced proportions, and contemporary silhouette. The front fascia appears to feature a new bumper and slightly redesigned grille and hood, which go a long way in lending it a powerful stance.
Beyond that, there’s pretty much nothing to say of the side- and rear profiles due to the heavy guise it sports. Having said that, you should still expect features such as 18-inch alloy wheels, a rear privacy glass, automatic xenon headlights, adaptive suspension dampers, LED taillights, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror.
The dimensions and color options also receive some slight changes. Details are however unknown for now.
2017 Lincoln MKX Interior
As you can see from the spy pics we have, it is virtually impossible to tell anything. However, our renderings show that new features and technologies will be offered. The layout will unlikely change over the previous model.
Four trims are available for the new 2017 Lincoln MKX: Black Label, Reserve, Premiere, and Select.
Two engines are slated to be offered: a 3.7L V6 and a 2.7L V6. Specs are unknown for now, but the six-speed automatic transmission system, and the standard FWD and the available AWD should carry on to the new model.
The existing model achieved a perfect score of five out five star rating for overall crash impact protection on all counts. So if that’s anything to go by, then it’s only natural for the new model to come with the same perfect scores during its release date.
