Being the first model to adopt the SKYACTIVE TECHNOLOGY and the KODO-Soul of Motion design language, the Mazda CX-5 was at the vanguard of the new generation model. The 2017 Mazda CX-5, as is evidenced by teaser photos, continue to build upon on the same design language by incorporating latest designs with those that are vital to the CX-5 DNA. Although its release date details are still for debate, we have lots of reasons to think it will occur sometime in mid-2017. The sneak preview below is a must-read for anyone obsessed with the CX-5 or at least for those who just need to know a thing or two about what to expect.
Anyone shopping in the crossover SUV segment can quickly dismiss them as bland flavors. While that may be true, a blanket description wouldn’t necessarily describe each one of them. Just to single it out, the 2017 Mazda CX-5 breaks that mold thanks to features such as a great fuel economy, an engaging driving character, desirable safety features, spacious accommodations, and a sporty driving feel.
In fact, the Mazda CX-5 is one of our favorite picks in the segment. Compact crossover SUVs are great when it comes to offering spacious accommodations, great exterior visibility, and off-road maneuverability. The CX-5 takes things a notch higher with its enhanced foul-weather driving capability, elevated driving positions, ample passenger and cargo volumes, and thrifty engines.
See, the aforementioned features may have seemed to be quite alluring a while back, but with all-rounded alternatives such as the Honda CR-V, Ford Escape, Subaru Forester, Jeep Cherokee, and the Toyota RAV4 nipping your heels, something better had to be done. According to Mazda, the extra features include a nicely-trimmed cabin, quiet ride quality, excellent visibility, comfortable seats, and excellent safety scores. Again, it is expected to offer a sporty handling and steering – rarities in this class. The two features should greatly impact its fun-to-drive personality.
Rumors allege the new 2017 Mazda CX-5 is likely to return unchanged over the previous iteration especially in terms of the exterior and interior looks. If this is confirmed – which by the way have no complains about – the new model will still look distinctive. Although not ruling out that possibility, the interior will likely feature some facelifts that will greatly enhance the quality feel, functionality, and usability of the cockpit area.
As previously mentioned, the new Mazda CX-5 2017 isn’t the only vehicle that will be offered in the crossover SUV segment. Others include the Honda CR-V, Toyota RAV4, Ford Escape, and the Jeep Grand Cherokee.
2017 Mazda CX-5 Release Date & Price
We’ll be lying to you if we told you the exact price to expect for the new model. That would also be true for the release date. See, it’s too early for such details to be made public now (at the time of this review writing). However, this doesn’t bar us from offering our ‘professional’ piece of mind. That said, buyers should expect the new Mazda CX-5 to go for sale sometime in mid-2017 with a price starting from $32,000 without options, at least according to online forums.
2017 Mazda CX-5 Exterior Spy Shots
Rumors allege the exterior design will carry over unchanged over the previous model. That means the new model will still feature a sharper sense of dynamism that earned the outgoing model the high acclaim. Even without significant changes expect, subtle tweaks are still expected. Check back for more exacting details during its release date.
2017 Mazda CX-5 Interior Redesigns
Teaser images show the new model will step up the quality of the interior a notch higher thanks to the subtle tweaks and enhancements to technologies. Some of the features you should expect include a metal-finish trim, driver-focused cockpit design, black leather interior, Mazda Connect car connectivity, voluminous storage areas, and decorative panels for its instrument panel.
Three trims should be expected for the new 2017 Mazda CX-5: Grand Touring, Touring, and Sport.
Another area where we don’t expect Mazda to change anything is on what lurks beneath the hood. We still expect the two options provided in the previous model to be carried forward to the new 2017 Mazda CX-5. To wit, they are: a 155 horsepower, four-cylinder 2.0L engine; and a 184 horsepower- generating 2.5L four cylinder engine. Default systems should include a FWD and a sophisticated AWD system. The previous model was rated at 29 mpg for combined driving.
A Diesel mill is also in the works. Updates will follow soon.
