The new 2017 Kia Sportage is the longest-running Kia Motors America’s nameplate. The 4th gen model debuted during the 2015 Los Angeles Auto Show, where we got to see KMA’s latest design elements. The new model is more spacious, stiffer, and is wrapped in a stunning contemporary design. Just to offer you a taste of the juicy stuff to expect, the new 2017 Sportage comes with a world-class craftsmanship and premium materials, an available intelligent AWD system, steering and suspension improvements, and a boatload of driver-assistance technologies. Still need more details? Then be my guest. It’s pricing and release date details are also covered.
“The all-new Kia Sportage 2017 hits all the sweet spots by proving virtually everything different kinds of buyers are looking for. It combines a thoughtful functionality and design with distinct European and sporty styling, including a turbocharged engine, premium materials, and innovative packaging instead of bland utility,” said vice president, product planning KMA – Orth Hedrick.
The level of connectivity, convenience, and comfort has been improved through the impressive level of craftsmanship, with soft-touch, high-quality materials engulfed in a range of technologies. Better ride quality, performance, handling, and efficiency has been enhanced by the available updates available on the drivetrain. Three trim levels are available for the 2017 Kia Sportage: SX Turbo, LX, and EX, each offering some unique details that differ from one another.
To put it simply, the 2017 Kia Sportage delivers in terms of both versatility and style. The number of features that Kia has offered the Sportage are simply overwhelming especially considering its peers. Although the previous model came under fire for its cramped backseat, we’re now happy to report that the backseat is now remarkably roomy. Another area its fans had gripes with was the firm ride quality, which has now been replaced by a now relatively compliant ride quality that soaks rough road surfaces pretty well, to the point that it feels like a normal asphalt surface.
Inasmuch as the new model evokes a notion of “all is now well.” Not everything has been fixed! The fuel economy is still so-so, or should I call it lackluster. This has all along been predictable given the return of both the engines offered for the previous model. In combined driving, the 2.4L-engine with an AWD pairing returned 22 mpg, while the optional 2.0L Turbo managed to get 21 mpg. Compare them side by side with the Honda CR-V – its “A” rated rival – and you’ll quickly realize that it falls short by up to 5 mpg. On the plus side however, the engines are significantly responsive, refined, and quiet.
Other exceptional options the segment offers include the aforementioned Honda CR-V, the remarkably spacious Honda HR-V, well-rounded Mazda CX-5, and the reinvented 2017 Ford Escape. The level of competition is high – no doubt – but Kia manages to hold its own quite well against these perennial bogeys.
